AEW/Other Wrestling

Tony Khan spoke to Bleacher Report about how much he enjoys working with CMLL:

I really enjoy working with CMLL and I expect we’re going to have a really long, fruitful, positive business relationship. Salvador [Lutteroth III] and the team at CMLL have been great to work with. I’ve dreamed of working with them for years.

I’m a really big fan of CMLL. When Salvador and a lot of the lucha libre wrestlers come in, I start talking to them about how, when I was in college, I would watch CMLL every week and I was a big fan of Mistico and so many other great wrestlers like Ultimo Guerrero, Rey Bucanero, Tarzan Boy, they were a great trio, and Blue Panther of course.

To be able to work with them now and with Mistico, who is an inspiration and one of the greatest stars in wrestling, it’s really cool. The people at CMLL have been great to work with.

Khan also discussed AEW’s partnerships with Stardom and NJPW:

The folks at Stardom have come in and been a great partnership. I think it’s the kind of partnership I’ve wanted to have with them for a long time. And with the changes in management, we’ve been able to do that.

Under president [Hiroshi] Tanahashi at New Japan Pro-Wrestling, that relationship has only gotten stronger and better. And I believe this could be the best Forbidden Door yet, which is really saying something.

Kyle Fletcher is defending his ROH TV title against Atlantis Jr. at CMLL’s Arena Mexico show next Friday.

While appearing on Fox 5 in New York, MJF expressed how much he believes in AEW:

Look, it was a very easy decision [to stay with AEW] for me – mainly because Tony Khan is paying me an exorbitant amount of money. But outside of that, I also believe in AEW, I believe that it’s where the best wrestle. I believe that we have some of the most top-tier elite talent you get to see in the world today.

Jim Ross wishes CM Punk was still in AEW and thinks it’s unfortunate that things didn’t work out:

I get text messages from him on a somewhat frequent basis because he’s just checking on me to see how I’m feeling. He likes me and he respects me, and it’s reciprocal … I miss CM Punk. I thought he contributed greatly to the AEW roster when he was with us. To be perfectly candid, I wish he still was. How do you not want a talent the level of CM Punk not still with your company? It, personality-wise, just did not work out, and that’s unfortunate.

Ian Riccaboni was the guest on AEW Unrestricted this week.

In an interview with Tokyo Sports, Josh Barnett named Katsuyori Shibata, Goldberg, Shayna Baszler, and Boltin Oleg as people he’d like to see compete at future Bloodsport Japan events.

After Jacob Fatu made his WWE debut last night, Alex Hammerstone tweeted: “It’s pretty incredible to see people still mentioning the series of matches Jacob and myself had after his big debut tonight. But guys… yeah what we did was special…. But what Jacob does every time he steps in the ring is special. The world about to learn”

Matt Riddle is in Mexico City for Lucha Libre AAA’s TV taping today. Last weekend, Riddle missed his indie bookings after announcing that he suffered a concussion when his Uber got in an accident on the way to the airport.
